EXPERIENCE:

In 2000, after earning my Secondary Ed Certification from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas, I began my career teaching Eighth grade Language Arts in Lufkin, Texas. After moving to North Carolina in 2001, I taught Language Arts and Social Studies for 4 years.  I went on to earn my English as a Second Language certification and moved to Randolph County School System as a K-12 ESL teacher. I taught ESL for 7 years in several schools throughout the county, as well as teaching ESL at Randolph Community College.  In 2012, I returned to the classroom at ATMS as an Eighth grade Social Studies teacher.  In 2017, I switched to Eighth grade Language Arts. In 2019, I switched back in Social Studies!

BIOGRAPHY:

I am originally from Northwestern Pennsylvania.  I lived in Nacogdoches, Texas for 12 years before moving to North Carolina in 2001.  I have four grown sons who live all over the United States.  My hobbies include horseback riding, camping, exploring little known historic sites, and any kind of water sports. I live on a farm with horses, goats, chickens, dogs, and cats.

I love teaching middle school, because the students come to me as timid, young children, and leave for high school as confident young adults.  I enjoy teaching Eighth grade Social Studies because of its concentration in U.S. History.  The students are excited to learn the history of our government and how the expansion from East to West and globally for the last 500 years has affected our culture.
